Honea Path, South Carolina – Mrs. Julia Ellis Ashley, 92, formerly of 9 Sunset Drive, died at NHC of Anderson on January 4, 2010. Services for Mrs. Ashley will be at Keowee Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM Wednesday in the sanctuary. The funeral will be at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Jerry Mize.

Mrs. Ashley, widow of J. Dale Ashley, was born in Level Land. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Mae Davis Ellis and Moffatt Grier Ellis. She attended schools in Level Land and Due West. She was a long time member of Keowee Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the adult choir and a member of the Lois Martin Sunday School Class. For sixteen years she was employed at Riegel Textile in Ware Shoals, Honea Path Shirt Makers, and retired in 1984.

Surviving are one sister, Mildred Ellis Baird of Columbia; a brother, Howard T. Ellis of Hilo, Hawaii; nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Janis Melton Ashley Jennings, her husband, Jonathan Jennings and their sons, John Jennings all of Anderson and James Jennings and his wife Erica of Massachusetts.

Mrs. Ashley was predeceased by her son, Moffatt Clark Ashley, in 1972 and her husband in 1978. Mrs. Ashley’s extended family wishes to express deepest thanks to her caregiver Janis Ashley Jennings for her love and special care throughout the years. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at NHC, Solaris Hospice, friends and neighbors of Mrs. Ashley for their prayers, care and concern.

Pruitt Funeral Home in Honea Path is in charge of arrangements. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Keowee Baptist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
