Donalds – Catherine Gambrell Ashley, 88, widow of James David Ashley, of 1669 Willie Kay Rd., died Saturday, August 29, 2009 at National Health Care in Anderson.

Born in Abbeville County, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Bessie Lusk Gambrell. She was a member of Donalds Baptist Church and was retired from B.F. Goodrich.

Surviving are three daughters, Rebecca A. Kerr of Donalds, Aliene A. Creel of Williamston, and Peggy A. Santoyo of Princeton, one sister Odell Smith of Shoals Junction, and 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a son, Johnny H. Ashley, four brothers, Carroll, Woodrow, Ed (Junior), and Pat Gambrell, and three sisters, Claudia Seawright, Corrine Hendricks, and Juanita (Pete) Gordon.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1st, at 3 P.M. at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Sturkie and Rev. Billy Slatten officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 PM Tuesday at Pruitt Funeral Home prior to the service. The family is at her home.
