GRACE BURTON SMITH


Ware Shoals, S.C. Grace Burton Smith of 1181 Camak Road, widow of Benjamin Edwin Smith went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2009.

Grace was born in Anderson, S.C. on Sept. 9, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Caro and Emma White Burton. She was retired from Monsanto and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Bennie Faye Eddy and husband Frank of Greenwood: two sons, Danny Ray Smith and wife, Jana of Cabot, Arkansas, Wade Edward Smith and wife Brenda of Ware Shoals; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great-great-grand daughter; three brothers, Rev. Wade T. Burton, J. Felton Burton and P. Leroy Burton all of Greenwood. The family would also like to acknowledge two loving and devoted caregivers, Mrs. Margaret Luker and Mrs. Marcelle Owens both of Ware Shoals.

Grace was preceded in death by a son, Richard M. Gillard, a sister, Edna Burton Taylor, and a brother, Jesse Caro Burton, Jr.

The family is at the home, 1181 Camak Road and will receive friends at Parker-White Funeral Home Monday, 12 to `1:30 pm . Funeral services will follow at 2 pm at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.


Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Frank Eddy, Jr., Brad Gillard, Dr. Jason Smith, Jeremy Smith, Justin Smith and Aaron Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to The Burton Center, 2605 Hwy. 72/221 East, Greenwood, S.C. 29649., or to Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 6000 Poplar Springs Road, Ware Shoals, S.C. 29692 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C, 29646 or to a charity of one’s choice.
