Albert “Mac” McAllister


Ware Shoals, S.C. Albert Monroe “Mac” McAllister, 83. a resident of Wesley Commons in Greenwood, S.C. and a lifetime resident of Ware Shoals, joined his beloved wife Genell Bonds McAllister of 59 years in heaven on Thursday, May 22, 2008. “Mac”, an avid Atlanta Braves fan loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a loving and supportive father, grandfather and great grandfather and friend to man. “Mac” was a veteran of the US Navy and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Ware Shoals First Baptist
Church.

Mr. McAllister was a member of the S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Assn., S.C. Sheriff’s Assn., and a Past Member of Upper Savannah Development Counsel .
For “thirty eight years, one month and three weeks”, striving to make life safer for the citizens of Greenwood County, he proudly served as a law enforcement officer. He began his career in law enforcement at the Ware Shoals Police Department in 1952, eventually serving as Chief of Police from 1961 to 1975. He continued his career at the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, retiring as a Captain in 1990.

Born in Abbeville County, “Mac”, the son of the late Monroe and Lula Timms McAllister, he is survived by his daughter Brenda James and husband, Dr. Bill James of Spartanburg, son, Albert “Ronnie Mac” McAllister and wife Carla of Greenwood, daughter Sandi Owens and husband, Ronnie of Ware Shoals. Also surviving are grandchildren Tripp James of Spartanburg, Dana Chrisley and husband Chris, Leah McAllister, Ronnie McAllister II, Greenwood, Kensley Owens and Madison Owens of Ware Shoals and great grandchildren, Garrett and Rayane. He is also survived by sisters, Ruby Sweat, Ware Shoals and Eugenia Rice, Hamilton, N.J.
He was pre-deceased by three sisters, Jeanette McAllister, Laura Seawright and Lois Sharpe and two brothers, Ralph and Leonard McAllister.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 pm at the First Baptist Church with
Rev, Leon Jones and Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The Honor Guard of Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Giles Daniel, Sam Riley, Wayne Saylors, Marvin Adams,
John Murray, Connie Hill, Lina Blizzard,
Gary Stratton, Tony Davis, Dennis Beauford, Tommy Mitchell, Wayne Whatley, Donna Knight, Arlie Capps, Hugh Simmons, Becky Hodges, Jimmy Boggs, Johnny Morton, Donnie Coker, Phillip Anderson, Don Boland, Sudie Cooper, Steve Owings, Willie Anderson, Larry Scott, Dan Wideman, Scott Masterson, Lonnie Smith, Sammy Hill, Ricky Miles, Randy Miles, Ralph Evans ,James Henderson , Ware Shoals Police Dept. and all other current and retired officers from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and Ware Shoals Police Department..

The family is at the home of a daughter, Sandi Owens, 114 Smith St. extension and will receive friends at Parker-White Funeral Home, Saturday, 7-9 pm.
