Mrs. Imogene Bridges

Simpsonville – Imogene Gary Bridges, widow of Judge Calvin Lee Bridges, died Thursday January 17, 2008 at Hillcrest Hospital. For the past eight years, she had resided at Summit Place Living Center in Simpsonville.

Born on May 11, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Earl Gary and Lilly Thaxton Gary of Fountain Inn. She had two sisters, Lula Mims of Charleston, S.C. and Madelon Montgomery of Union Springs, Alabama, and a brother Jonathan Nathaniel Gary of Fountain Inn, all deceased.

Mrs. Bridges is survived by her two sons, Roger Lee Bridges and his wife Maxine of Woodruff, S.C. and David Mike Bridges and his wife Bonnie of Greer, S.C. She has three grandchildren; Michael Lee Bridges, Gloria Bridges, and Mylissa Vickery. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren; Hailey Mesa and Ashley Vickery and numerous nieces and nephews. Her chief devotion was her family.

Her career was cosmetology. She began as a stylist in Atlanta, Georgia. Later, she owned her own shop in Ware Shoals, S.C. She ended her career as an inspector for the South Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts.

A devout Christian, she maintained her membership at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where she was an active member for many years and had many devoted friends. She attended Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors when she resided in Taylors and she formed many close associations at that church. The family wishes to express special thanks to members, deacons, and pastors from Brushy Creek Baptist who faithfully visited Mrs. Bridges at Summit Place for eight years.

They also wish to thank each staff member at Summit Place Living Center who lovingly cared for her.

Visitation will be at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Ware Shoals from 2 to 3 P.M Sunday with the funeral and burial to follow at the church with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Ostrom officiating.
