William “Bill” Gambrell

Honea Path – William Lewis “Bill” Gambrell, 76, husband of Betty Lee Arflin Gambrell of 3615 Shady Grove Road, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Ruben Hampton and Elizabeth Lollis Gambrell. He was retired from J. E. Murphy’s and Sons, a member of Friendship Baptist Church, a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher and had served on various committees with the church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II and Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife of the home, three daughters; Wanda Black and husband Randy, Debbie Vaughn and husband Chuck, Tammy Poore and husband Jeff all of Honea Path, a brother; Haynie Gambrell of Honea Path, two sisters; Betty Sue Gambrell and Faye Tucker both of Honea Path, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Friday at Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Bowen and Rev. Paul Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 to 1 PM Friday at Friendship Baptist Church prior to the service. The family is at the home. Pruitt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at WWW.PARKERWHITEPRUITT.COM.
