Dorothy Henry

Honea Path – Dorothy Brownlee Henry, 92, a native of Donalds, S.C. and a recent resident of The Maples Assisted Living Facility, Honea Path, S.C. died on Saturday, December 29, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Katherine Keese Brownlee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill, his wife, Lois, and their daughter, Evelyn.

She was the widow of Louis Carr Henry of Texas and Washington, DC, whom she married in 1949. After her husband’s death in 1983, she continued to live in the Washington, DC area until 2003.

She graduated from Erskine College, Due West, S.C. in 1936. After teaching in Georgia, she studied nursing at the Capital City School of Nursing in Washington, DC, receiving a certificate of Registered Nurse in 1942. For several years, she was the Assistant Evening Supervisor at Gallinger Hospital, Washington, DC. She later became the Evening Supervisor for the Medical Branch of the University of Texas Hospital in Galveston, Texas.

She is survived by a daughter, Margaret C.(Peg) Henry of Manhattan, New York, a son, Alexander Brownlee Henry and his wife, Marie Quick Henry, two grandchildren, Katharine Hunter Henry and Christopher Carr Henry, all of La Canada, California.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Greenville Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Donalds, S.C.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Greenville Presbyterian Church, Box 157, Donalds, S.C. 29638. Pruitt Funeral Home, Honea Path, S.C. in charge of arrangements.
