Born in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Prince Vaughn.  She had worked at Chiquola Manufacturing Company.

Surviving are: her son, Sam McAbee  (Mary Ann Chadwick) of Belton, her daughter, Jennifer Tollison of Williamston; six grandchildren, Amber Tollison, D.J. Tollison, Sara Oliver, Nevaeh Curtis, Jasmine McAbee and Kiley McAbee.
