Honea Path – Honorable Rubye Branyon Devore, 94, widow of the late John David “Johnny” Devore, formerly of Heyward Ave., died Friday, October 10, 2008 at National Health Care of Mauldin.

Born in Abbeville County she was a daughter of the late James and Nettie Hanks Branyon. She was a member of the Honea Path First Baptist Church where she was a former choir member and had served as Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Rubye was retired after 21 years as Clerk and Treasurer of the Town of Honea Path, having later served two terms as the first female Mayor of Honea Path. She was Honea Path’s first representative on the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Council of Governments and also served as Past President of the Anderson County Municipal Association.

Surviving are three daughters, Johnnie Devore King of Easley, Jean Devore Bowie of Easley, and Janice Devore Gilstrap of Danville, VA, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Earl Branyon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday at the Honea Path First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Moody and Rev. Booker Bagby officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at Pruitt Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 1 PM Monday.
