Donalds – William Roy Boling, Jr. 89 husband of Evelyn Stone Boling, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Richard Campbell Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 4, 1918 in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late William R. Boling, Sr. and Flossie Vera Greer Boling.

After graduating from Greenville High School in 1940 he enlisted in the Army, He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. In 1941 he graduated Army Air Corps Flying School and was commissioned in 1943. He married Evelyn Stone Boling on May 9, 1943.

He completed 50 combat missions over Germany, Austria, Italy, Poland and Yugoslavia in 1944, and was a pilot on the Berlin Airlift in 1949. He flew combat missions over Korea from Japan, 1950-1951 and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1961. In WWII he flew his first mission May 10, 1944 and last mission September 4, 1944. He graduated from Greenville Technical College with an Associate Science Degree in Electronics in 1964.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Stone Boling of the home, daughter, Barbara Tollison and Husband John Patrick Tollison of Anderson, Grandson, Stephen Channing Willingham and wife Charmaine Cherie and great granddaughter Elizabeth Ervin of Mt. Pleasant, one great grandson Ellison and one great grandson deceased, Lawton Lee Willingham, also surviving are one brother, James Albert Boling, two sisters, Vera Childress and Betty Creswell all of Greenville. He was predeceased by brother; Charles Boling and sister; Vivian Darnell.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Sturkie officiating. The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 10 – 11 A.M. Tuesday prior to the service. Private burial will follow in Donalds Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Richard Campbell Activity Van Fund, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621. The family is at their respective homes.
