Honea Path – Evelyn Ashley, 84, of Parker Road, died peacefully on Monday, December 12, 2022 at her home.
Born in the Mt. Bethel Community of Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late George Dale, Sr. and Ollie Christine Burroughs Ashley. She was a member of Barkers Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Children’s Church, and was active in the WMU. A graduate of Honea Path High School, she attended Erskine College and graduated from the University of Maryland. She retired as Director of Facilities at Montgomery College in Montgomery County, MD. After returning to Honea Path she served as Development Coordinator, worked with the Honea Path Chronicle, and was active in the Honea Path Garden Club.
Surviving are daughters Catherine Elaine Miller of Honea Path, Cynthia Miller Hunter (Shawn) of Prosperity, and Christeen Miller Sheridan (Thai) of Superior, CO, a brother, George Dale Ashley, Jr. (Mary) of Fredericksburg, TX, sisters Linda Ashley Ballenger of Anderson and Julia Ashley Brock (Pascal) of Lugoff, grandsons Brandon John Sheridan and Kyle Christian Sheridan, niece Margaret Miller Marcom, nephews James William Ashley, George Dale Ashley III, and Robert McPherson Miller, great-nephew Preston Scott Ashley and a host of Country Cousins.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister Rebecca Ashley Cassell, brothers-in-law James Jerry Cassell and Thomas Theron Ballenger, sister-in-law Patricia Kirkham Ashley, and nephew Brian Patrick Ashley.
Evelyn cared deeply for her family, her church, her community, and the individuals around her. She was a lifelong student of her faith and quietly went about living it out as she met the needs of those around her.
A Memorial Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, December 23rd at Barkers Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Taylor, Rev. Randy Creamer, and Dr. Catherine Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories.
The family is at the home and will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM on Friday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Honea Path Free Clinic, 34 N.
